They?
Who are they?

I listen to people when they are so eager to share something they have realized and are pretty sure that I haven’t heard. Every so often someone approaches me and says “you know? They are planning a new world war,” or “they have created this refined salt to make us all stupid,” and “they want to put microchips everywhere and watch us all the time”. Well, some of these things sound true and some sound too far fetched but it is almost always pretty confusing who “they” are?

When someone does something good, either this person or another announces this to the world, let it be known and let it create an example for everyone. But when someone does something abusive against or without the will of others we seldom know who s/he is and what exactly is going on until the guy gets caught or publicly demonized in the mainstream. And rarely the person caught is the person who is in charge of what happened. Then we have to figure out who “they” are.

There are some people who are just very greedy and others who are very close to being devil incarnate but it sounds unlikely that all these people are members of one evil organization. I’m talking about the recent inflation in conspiracy theories (see the post Conspiracies and Conspiracy Theories) Thanks to Umberto Eco’s Foucault’s Pendulum and Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code, lately we’ve been hearing much about the Illuminati. These group of powerful individuals are perhaps responsible for lots of evils including wars, modern slavery, monetary systems, etc. But I don’t think they are responsible for all wars and everything bad. I also hear of reptilian people, who are descendants of our extraterrestrial masters. They may or may not exist but I don’t think they are responsible for all evil either. There are also grays, the neocons, the trilateral commission, the fascists. Neither of them is all-responsible.

It is ridiculous to say “Bush is responsible for 9/11” since he is just a puppet for “them”. Of course Hitler was responsible for the holocaust to a big extent but by himself he couldn’t have done anything. Wars are planned in secret meetings of few powerful people but they couldn’t be fought without the help of the universal soldier (see post Universal Soldier lyrics by Donovan). As long as we act like we have nothing to do with all the wrong things on earth, and accept to be tools for others, we are also responsible.

I know some conspiracy theories are spread with the purpose of making people feel powerless over the world they live in or their own lives. When we talk of all-powerful aliens controlling the world, we empower them. Some things can be hard to change but change is the rule of nature and sometimes happens in small bits, one person at a time. When we think that we want to change things and we can do something about it, we are immediately fed the bad examples of people who are ruined in the process, and other powerful guys who conspired against them. It is up to us to see that all the improvements are started by a little group of people, who were at first branded as nutcases, marginals, extremists, heretics, or just stupid people. But they didn’t think that they were powerless over “them”, that their numbers and energy is very minimal in comparison. They started something, others joined and the world changed. We are responsible.

So when you hear about “them” wanting to ruin the world, enslave every one, take the whole control in their hands, remember that they are only as powerful as you empower them, and they are just as big as you see them. Let the others know this. Spread the truth with a positive, constructive approach. Even though you feel like cursing the darkness, light a candle first, and after curse it if you will.

They are little people. They can be powerful because we have been empowering them for too long with our ignorance, but they are few. We can and will change the world for the better.
We are responsible.
